It has been brought to our attention that James. Brunswick, Community Ombudsman at DNREC will not be able to attend and bring his co-workers from DNREC to tonight's planned Delaware Concerned Residents for Environmental Justice community forum.
DNREC felt that the agenda for tonight's meeting was "too broad" and wanted to reschedule for another time after meeting with the Concern Residents group leader to flesh that out. There will be a meeting with DNREC for the community forum we planned but it will not be tonight. You have my sincere apologies for any inconvenience and for the very short notice.
We will still be meeting tonight. The Delaware Concerned Residents for Environmental Justice will no longer be sponsoring the event. That group will be working with DNREC on rescheduling-- however I felt that it would disrespectful of people's time who may come to the library only to find nobody there. Since the primary mode of distributing the info about the forum was paper fliers, there would be no way to go back and contact every person who may have heard about the forum. We do not need DNREC to have a good meeting for people to build community and discuss their individual and shared concerns or suggestions for increased health and environmental protections.
Anyone is invited to join us to meet fellow community members, discuss problems and suggested solutions and to find common ground on the specific issues we would like to address when we do meet with DNREC. Light refreshments will be served and we will bring paper for folks to write down their concerns ad send letters to DNREC if they would like.
Please spread the word about the change to anyone who you might have told about the original forum. We are happy to still have people come tonight but we don't want it to be under false pretenses. I am going to try to put the word out about the switch to as many folks as I can this morning/afternoon.
