Looking back at the past month:On July 29, U.S. Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-MT) and U.S. House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) stopped by Philadelphia as part of their Tax Reform Listening Tour. They had a private meeting with a business, but no opportunity for the public for the public to make their voice heard. Delaware ADA helped put together a tax justice rally to make sure Senator Baucus and Representative Camp know that it's time for the 2% to pay their fair share, to end corporate tax dodging, and to invest in US! You can see photos from this event here and check out a short video of us chanting here.On July 26, Delaware ADA hosted a luncheon and happy hour with special guest Matt Gardner, Executive Director of the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy. Read the Cape Gazette article about our luncheon here and check out photos here. At our Happy Hour we also announced the launch of an ADA chapter in Delaware. See the Newark Post photo and caption from our happy hour here and check our more photos here. Thanks to everyone who attended these events! On July 20, Delaware ADA had a booth at Delaware City Day. We talked to community members about corporate tax fairness and the federal budget, redistricting reform, and progressive education reform. You can check out photos from our table here.Delaware Economic Justice CoalitionOn July 15, Delaware ADA convened the second monthly meeting of the Delaware Economic Justice Coalition. Organizations interested in economic justice came to the table to give updates about their work. If you know of an organization that should be invited to the table, let me know!Partnering for JusticeDelaware ADA is partnering with other Delaware organizations and coalitions working on social and economic justice. If you are interested in advocacy for any of the following issues, let me know and I will connect you to the respective organizers: death penalty repeal, election day registration, increasing the minimum wage, and making drivers' licenses accessible for undocumented Delawareans. Regarding redistricting reform, while Senate Bill 48 passed the senate and a majority of Democrats in the House are co-sponsors, it appears that House leadership will kill the bill in January.
