The future
The future
The impact of climate change is already being felt in communities around the country. There are things we can do immediately to take this challenge head-on. We have bipartisan clean energy legislation before the Senate right now, but we need the whole Congress to act to protect our planet. Will you join several of my colleagues and me in demanding immediate action to slow climate change? The first step is a simple one. Congress should pass the bipartisan Master Limited Partnerships Parity Act, which would drive down the cost of renewable energy, making it cheaper to move to a clean energy economy.Congress can also pass the voluntary, consensus-based policies in the Energy Savings and Industrial Competitiveness Act, which I have cosponsored, as well as the bipartisan Weatherization Enhancement and Local Energy Efficiency Investment and Accountability Act, which I introduced with Senators Collins and Reed.Furthermore, we can pass the Quadrennial Energy Review Act that I introduced with Senator Pryor earlier this year, which would do a government-wide review of the nation’s energy needs and capabilities. It’s true that we may not be able to fully stop climate change, but doing nothing is unacceptable. We can take steps now to slow it down and lessen its impact. We must.Right now, join our call and let Congress know it is time to address climate change. We have a responsibility to our planet, to each other and to future generations to do our very best to slow this process and to help our planet survive.
