It was more than just music for some of the attendants of the Open Space Music Fest. “I love it,” Jesse Alex of North Wilmington, Del., said. “This is right up my alley. This is what keeps me living. It’s hopeful. We’ve got all this here, we’ve got to pay attention.”
The all-day music extravaganza was the collaboration of Save the Valley, the Beaver Valley Conservancy and Newlin Grist Mill, as a response to a development plan that has been proposed, but withdrawn, for the Beaver Valley tract bordered by Route 202 and Smithbridge Road.
One of the 80 volunteers at Saturday’s event, [Michele Daviduk] said 200 people had preregistered to attend and the 10 bands donated their time. Maureen “Fitzy” Groves, a Save the Valley and Conservancy member, said the vendors were also donating a portion of their proceeds to the groups. “It’s nice to feel that support from the community,” she said over some margherita pizza from Pizza Wagon. “What little open space in Concord Township we have left, we need to respect and hold onto.”
