The Delaware Sustainable Energy Utility announces four new Board Members
DOVER, DE – The Delaware Sustainable Energy Utility announced the appointment by Governor Markell of three new members to its Board of Directors: Pamela Bakerian, Executive Director Delaware Farm Bureau; Dr. S. Ismat Shah, Professor of Engineering at the University of Delaware; and Joseph J. Schorah, Business Agent at Sheet Metal Workers Local 19.
In addition, Dave Bonar, recently appointed Public Advocate by the Governor, joined the Board by title as mandated by the Utility’s charter.
“The DESEU is honored to welcome Pamela Bakerian, Professor Shah, Joe Schorah and Dave Bonar as new board members. Each one provides diverse perspectives and experiences from their work in their various fields that will greatly enhance our efforts to serve the people of Delaware. We are so pleased these exceptional leaders will offer their guidance and leadership,” says Senator Harris B. McDowell III, Chairman.
Dr. S. Ismat Shah is a jointly appointed Professor of Materials Science and Engineering, Physics and Astronomy at the University of Delaware as well as Senior Policy Fellow, Institute of Energy and Environment Policy. Professor Shah has received numerous academic fellowships, awards and recognitions.
Pamela Bakerian is Executive Director Delaware Farm Bureau. A former State Representative from the 29th District, she served on the Energy Committee. Pam’s experience with agriculture and energy introduces a unique perspective to the Board.
David Bonar began work as the Public Advocate July 1, 2013 after being appointed to the position by Governor Jack Markell and confirmed by the Senate. Through his work as Ombudsman and Government Services Administrator for the Delaware Public Service Commission from 2000 to 2012, Mr. Bonar is well versed in the intricacies of public utility regulation, and brings that knowledge and expertise to the sustainable Energy Utility. Mr. Bonar previously served as a member of the Kent County Regional Planning Commission.
Joe Schorah is the Delaware Business Agent for Sheet Metal Workers Local #19 which he's been a 24 year member. Through a partnership with the SMCA (Sheet Metal Contractors Association), Joe has been committed to growing “green” jobs by providing clean air solutions and high performance HVAC systems and controls for commercial and residential buildings in the Delaware Valley. He is also member of Sheet Metal Workers LU 19 (JATC) Joint Apprentice and Training Committee. Joe also serves on the Delaware Environmental Economic Development Committee (DEED); Board of Directors United Way of Delaware; Chairman of New Castle County License Inspection Review Board; and the State of Delaware Board of Architects Committee.
