News Journal letter today ~ Be very suspect of plans for new chicken plant
Concerning the proposed chicken processing plant intended for Pinnacle Plant on Iron Branch Road in Millsboro, in the the written June 3 meeting minutes, Allen Harim stated 47 trucks would come in and out of this site each day. At the two community meetings, Allen Harim said 80 to 90 trucks would come in and out of this site each day. They also stated they would be using about 800,000 gallons of water a day.
Using Allen Harim’s math of 5 gallons of water to clean one chicken, that comes to 160,000 chickens processed a day and 80 to 90 trucks to haul away feathers, guts and finished product and unknown information for the disposal of wastewater.
Now, per wattagnet.com (updated July 26), Allen Harim wants to process 2 million chickens a week, which equals 400,000 chicken a day. Again, using their math at 5 gallons of water to clean one chicken, that equals 2 million gallons of water per day. That also means the trucks increase to 200 to 235 in and then out per day. God only knows the amount of disposal of wastewater.
The information that was said at the June 3 meeting now has nothing to do with what Allen Harim really wants. Also, only four out of 10 permit agencies replied to the letters, and the four that replied knew nothing about Allen Harim’s plans, thus only commenting on Vlasic Pickles building and equipment. How can the Board of Adjustments even vote on the information they have been given?
