School Enrollment Task Force to Meet
This fall, I will serve as the co-chair, along with Senator Nicole Poore, of a legislative task force that was created by my first bill, House Bill 90 . The bill streamlined Delaware’s school choice program to ensure all families could choose the best education option for them. Not only did this bill make the process easier, it made it fair. All students deserve a level playing field in the choice system. The Enrollment Preference Task Force will examine the current landscape of the enrollment preferences and practices used by magnet, vocational-technical, and charter schools statewide, and if necessary, develop recommendations.Members of the General Assembly, governor’s office and the Department of Education will serve on the task force as well as representatives from the Delaware Business Roundtable, the Charter School Network, the Delaware Parent Teacher Association and parents. The task force will present a final report of its findings and recommendations by January 31, 2014. All meetings are open to the public, and while we have not set a date for the first meeting, we look forward to your attendance.
