Assateague Surf 'N Turf War

Last week we showed the peaceful side of the horses on Assateague Island as they relaxed on the beach with fellow beach-goers nearby. Today, here's a shot of some sparring stallions putting on a show on the federal side of Assateague on Saturday. Thanks to Nancy Stauffer of Berlin for the photo. Typically, these sorts of conflicts arise when one stallion oversteps his bounds when it comes to a mare on the island.

While working as a member of the Pony Patrol, Berlin resident Barbara Gallagher captured this moment on Assateague Island's South Beach on a busy Saturday afternoon. These horses seemed unfazed by the beach-goers surrounding them.
