New Castle County Executive to Welcome Wilmington Children at Carousel Park for Visit
PIKE CREEK, Del. –Two groups of Wilmington children will visit Carousel Park this week as part of New Castle County Executive Tom Gordon’s goal to have more local youths enjoy the great outdoors.A group of children from the William “Hicks” Anderson Center in Wilmington will visit Carousel Park at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday and a group of children from the Boys & Girls Club in Wilmington will visit Carousel at 12:30 p.m. Thursday.While at Carousel, inner city children will be able to see the New Castle County Police Department’s Clydesdale horses, the pond freshly stocked with fish, beautiful swans and ducks swimming about, and green turtles sunning themselves on logs, Gordon said.Gordon, a native of the city of Wilmington, said outings like this were the kinds of things that made for great childhood memories.“We all remember what it was like to go on a field trip when we were kids,” Gordon said. “This is a chance for city children to experience nature up close in a pristine setting.”NCC Department of Community Services General Manager Alan Matas thanked Regina Marini and Danette Brock for their hard work in organizing this event. Matas said the County was excited to work with the Hicks Anderson Center and the Boys & Girls Club.“They have a long history of providing support services for our youth,” he said. “We’re happy to offer the kids a chance to enjoy Carousel Park not only this week but moving forward on numerous activities.”
