This Day in Delaware History: July 23, 1777 Admiral Lord Howe's British force of 260 ships and 17,000 troops set sail from Sandy Hook, N. J., destination unknown. It would soon arrive in the northern area of the Chesapeake Bay, close to Delaware's border. [Roger Martin]
