I have my question ready for tonight's town hall.
(News Journal) Jonathan Starkey reports ~ Markell back on hot seat over economy
Just this week, the Bloomberg Economic Evaluation of States ranked Delaware as one of the weakest state economies in the 12 months ending on June 30. The report found Delaware ranked 46th in terms of economic health, trailing every other state in the region.......... “These are not opinions, these are facts,” Senate Minority Leader Gary Simpson, a Milford Republican, said of the Bloomberg report. “And the fact is we have a sluggish, underperforming economy. And for the governor and his administration to simply dismiss these reports – which they’ve done on numerous occasions – is misguided and doesn’t help Delawareans.”
Markell and other administration officials had been dismissive of a September report from Moody’s Analytics in July showing that Delaware had experienced weak economic growth and was the only state in the U.S. still at risk of slipping back into recession. The Bloomberg report measured the state’s economic health in several ways, including personal income growth, mortgage delinquencies, stock performance, tax revenue, employment and home prices.
............A separate report from the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia predicts that Delaware’s economy will grow faster than the national average over the next six months, based partly on positive trends in the number of unemployment benefits claims and housing permits.
